\u00a0At the beginning of the 21st century, School N \u00b0 16 must fix its patio since, as on other occasions it was sinking, the Mayor at that time Laura Giagnacovo de Gallardo, Professor of History, requested that a study be carried out before the remodeling archaeological site to corroborate popular sayings that the tunnels linked the current School No. 16 with other places in the town.<\/p>

The U.N.L.P. and the Cultural Institute of the Province of Buenos Aires are the ones who develop the field work and archaeological research in the place. In their \u00abInterinstitutional Analysis on Constructive Materials from the Archaeological Site School No. 16 of San Miguel del Monte, Province of Buenos Aires\u00bb they state:<\/p>

\u201c\u2026 Regarding the arches and remains of structures found in the courtyard, they would correspond to foundations of important buildings and \/ or passageways. Used to hide weapons or food, corresponding to the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries \u201d. The purpose of the tunnels is uncertain, since they could have been used as a water reservoir or an escape route in case the fort was taken during a \u201cMal\u00f3n\u201d.<\/p>

Along with these tunnels are the foundations of the \u00abIglesia de la Divina Pastora de Monte\u00bb that Juan Manuel de Rosas (1793-1877) had rebuilt in 1829 because successive \u00abMalones\u00bb or the passage of time would have deteriorated its structure since it was in operation since 1778. It was inaugurated on May 25, 1831 and was demolished in 1852 after its defeat in the Battle of Caseros (February 3, 1852), this Church was located in front of the main square that It is where the army and in this case La Guardia del Monte carried out exercises and deposited some of their weapons.<\/p>

Until today the totality of the dimensions of the tunnel or of the Church is not known.<\/p>
