In 1869 the layout of the square was made. It bears the name of the politician Adolfo Alsina (1829-1877), who was Governor of the Province of Buenos Aires (1866-1868) and Vice President of the Argentine Republic during the presidency of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento (1868-1874).
The square is surrounded by E. Petracchi, Prof. L. Giagnacovo, H. Yrigoyen and L. N. Alem streets respectively. It has throughout its entire route an ornamentation with pergolas, flowerbeds and benches; accompanied by trees that surround the square and a sector of it in which there are games for children.
It not only fulfills the function of recreation and leisure; but it is also a place of daily transit, since the important institutions and buildings are in the surrounding streets: Municipality, Church, Bank of the Nation and Bank of the Province of Buenos Aires.
In the center of the square we find a monument in homage to Raúl Videla Dorna who was Mayor of our town during the period 1897-1899 and in 1932. He was the grandson of José Videla, and María Sandalia Dorna, a renowned family who it was strongly linked with the history of San Miguel del Monte in its beginnings; their stays were allied to the events that occurred in the town.
Currently the Adolfo Alsina square has an amphitheater that is located in front of the Municipal Palace where different activities are carried out.
The Adolfo Alsina Square, in the 1920s, had lighting and there was a mill, which was later transferred to the old Municipal Palace to provide water to both the municipality and the police station that was to its right.

The Adolfo Alsina square from the beginning of the century was a meeting place for the different festivities of our town.
A little history…
On December 24, 1926, the Adolfo Alsina square was the protagonist of a shooting, which was produced by political issues, a fact that transcended and was recorded in the newspapers of the Capital. There are writings that a commissioner wrote stating that the reasons for the shooting were electoral fraud, as a result of which there were 4 deaths and several wounded.
the swallows
These beautiful birds arrived for the first time in our town in the spring of 1991. Our Adolfo Alsina square received them, being arboreal, the bananas of this green space with their great size became their ideal roost.
These little birds arrive in spring and leave in early May. They are migratory birds that travel without straying more than 20,000 km round trip.
