Saint Michael the Archangel Parish

Saint Michael the Archangel Parish

In November 1779 in the Guardia del Monte, (name of the fort that would give rise to our town), the missionary priests who travelled the region would leave the Mission Cross and the construction of their first chapel as a sign of their passage.

Over time the chapel was transformed into a Parish and will have different dedications, such as Our Lady of Remedies, the Divine Shepherdess of Monte and Saint Michael Archangel. It also had various locations over time in different places.

Juan Capizzano, parish priest of the Church, had the rectory built. The same priest donated the great present bell. In front of the main entrance is the marble in his honor, "it is said that his remains lie there, but there are no documents that prove it."
The ceiling in its beginnings was vaulted with paintings on canvas; Over time, due to humidity, the ceiling was replaced by wood, which is supported by the lateral colonnades.
FOURTH TEMPLE: Currently located opposite Alsina Square . Its construction began in 1863. In 1867 it was completed and the new temple was inaugurated.

On the left we can see the old parish house with its staircase and the parish halls, which Juan Capizzano ordered to be built with his own income. Italian-style attachments are recognized in the so-called corner pinions. There is a marble written in Latin found in the new chapel.
Architectural style: The current building has a neo-colonial style characteristic; it is more precisely eclectic, with Roman reminiscences in the arches. It has a central tower with a dome of French origin, in the lateral body the age of the construction is evidenced.

It consists of four bells, the main one at the front; it was donated by Juan Capizzano with a French cut and recast in Argentina. The smaller bell on the right was donated by a family, and the one on the left is the original from the third chapel.

The original English watch is the second watch brought to South America (it works by winding)

The original English watch is the second watch brought to South America (it works by winding) and consists of four faces covered by glass, as well as its bell tower indicating the time.
In the internal part of the Church there are three naves, a higher central one with claristories that allow the entry of light and two lateral ones with different altars (the right the Eucharist and the left the baptistery).
The Archangel Saint Michael: protector of the people of God, of Israel and of the Church of Christ. The Church recognizes him as the protector of her hosts, whose protection does not abandon us until after death. He remains faithful to his mission as custodian of the Church and protection of the town.
The main altarpiece, with the central image of Archangel Saint Michael, upwards the Christ of the mission, downwards Christ crucified and to the sides Mary and Joseph, the columns that support it are covered with golden oil.
Americas Chapel was created because of the five hundred years of the arrival of religion to America.
YEAR 2020: During the quarantine, the Patron Saint is at the entrance of the Temple, as a symbol of people’s protection and Curch custodian.
